This is the fourth capitol building in Frankfort. Construction began in 1905 and was completed in 1909. It is referred to as the "new" Capitol because the "old" capitol built in 1830 is still standing. The final cost of construction was $1.82 million. Today it would cost between $500 million and $1 billion. The facade is constructed of Indiana Bedford Limestone and Vermont Granite.
