| The
House Chamber is designed in the Roman Classical Revival style, with a Pompeian color
scheme and decorative Latin embellishments. Pink scagliola* pilistars provide the major
decorative element for this room. All the woodwork is hand-carved Honduras mahogany. The
balcony is recessed and can seat 200 spectators and guests. The Speaker of the House of Representatives sits in the center chair, and
the two side chairs are reserved for visiting ministers and dignitaries.
*Scagliolla is a substance made of marble dust and gypsum glue designed to
look like ornamental marble. |
