The
walls and staircases are covered in Georgia marble. The floor is covered with marble from
Tennessee and Italy. The 36 monolith columns, made of solid granite, are 26 feet tall and
weigh 10 tons each. When the Capitol was built, no power-driven equipment was used, except
for steam-powered concrete mixers, so the columns had to be harnessed into place using
only human power along with a pulley system. Next room | Previous room | Virtual
