Like the House, The Senate Chamber is Romanesque in design. All woodwork
is hand carved mahogany. The balcony pillars and walls are covered in a
buff colored scagliola* to imitate Sienna marble. Probably the most
striking feature in this room is the original skylight.
The Presiding officer is the President of the Senate who sits in the
middle chair.
*Scagliolla is a substance made of marble dust and gypsum
glue designed to look like ornamental marble. |
